Sing for Somerset is a special Christmas carol service in Wells Cathedral, held each year to celebrate the work of the Somerset Community Foundation.
The Somerset Voices Choir leads the service, drawing singers from around the county (including the choral societies in Wellington and Taunton). Accompanied by the Mid Somerset Orchestra, the carol service is one of Somerset’s most iconic seasonal events, and is a rare opportunity to hear Christmas carols accompanied by a full symphony orchestra.
There is a small subscription of £12 to cover rehearsal expenses, with a limited number of free places for younger singers aged 18-30.
Prospective chorus members are asked to provide their own copy of 100 Carols for Choirs (or to bring Carols for Choirs 1 AND Carols for Choirs 2). All other music is provided. There are limited rehearsals for this high-profile project, so whilst there is no requirement to be able to read music, chorus members should be comfortable learning the music within the tight timetable!
